IYE Mentoring to Succeed
Inspiring Young Enfield: Mentoring to Succeed
Overview
The Mentoring to Succeed programme is a key strand of the Inspiring Young Enfield partnership, providing one-to-one, group, and peer mentoring for young people across the borough.
Developed and led by Enfield Council’s Youth Development Service, it connects young people aged 10 to 21 with trusted adults who help them build confidence, resilience, and a sense of direction.
Funded by the Mayor of London’s New Deal for Young People, this borough-wide initiative is grounded in the Gerard Egan Skilled Helper Model and aligned with the Mayor’s Mentoring Quality Framework — ensuring consistency, safeguarding, and measurable impact across all delivery partners.
Our Impact
Since its launch in July 2023, Mentoring to Succeed has grown into one of Enfield’s most successful targeted support programmes.
- 1,162 young people engaged, exceeding the original target of 720
- 919 young people completed their full mentoring journey
- 473 reported improved mental health and wellbeing
- 343 improved education or employment outcomes
- 186 showed reduced risky behaviours
- Referrals received from schools, social care, youth justice, and early help services
Beyond the numbers, the programme is defined by its people — experienced mentors who bring lived experience, empathy, and cultural insight to every conversation.
Their work has changed lives, strengthened relationships, and helped young people navigate school, home, and community life with greater confidence and hope.

What’s Next for Mentoring to Succeed
As we move forward, the Mentoring to Succeed programme continues to build on its strong foundation.
Our next phase focuses on embedding mentoring as a core part of Enfield’s youth support system, ensuring that every young person who needs guidance can access it quickly and consistently.
We are:
- Expanding the borough-wide mentoring network, bringing together schools, community providers, and local mentors under shared standards and training.
- Strengthening pathways into education, employment, and wellbeing, using mentoring as a bridge to sustained opportunity.
- Developing peer and group mentoring models to reach more young people in schools, youth hubs, and community settings.
- Showcasing young people’s voices, ensuring that mentees help shape how mentoring evolves across Enfield.
Through these next steps, Mentoring to Succeed is evolving from a funded project into a lasting part of Enfield’s approach to supporting young people — one relationship at a time.
