Empowering Local Communities to Create Safer Futures

The Youth Development Service is working closely with local residents and community organisations to create safer, stronger neighbourhoods in Enfield. Funded by MyEnds and guided by the framework, this hyperlocal initiative focuses on the Ponders End and Craig Park Youth and Family Hubs and their surrounding wards, areas identified as needing extra support to help prevent serious youth violence and improve opportunities for young people and their families.

Through the MyEnds Community Fund, we have awarded 12 local organisations grants of up to £5,000 to deliver projects shaped by their communities, for their communities. These include youth work, after-school programmes, parent and carer support networks, and creative activities such as sport, music, arts, and technology, all designed to give young people positive pathways and safer spaces to thrive.

This partnership approach builds on local strengths and shared commitment. The Youth Development Service provides ongoing guidance, mentoring, and support, while community partners lead on delivering activities that make a real difference where it matters most.

The programme is built around a three-tier model of prevention that supports young people at different stages of need:

  • Early intervention: helping young people before risks escalate
  • Targeted engagement: reaching those showing signs of vulnerability and offering positive activities
  • Specialist rehabilitation: offering tailored, intensive support where it is needed most and signposting to other services where needed

By focusing on hyperlocal partnerships and community leadership, YDS and its partners are building resilience, reducing the risks of violence, and creating safe spaces where young people and families can feel supported, connected, and confident about their futures.
