Care Leavers Under Special Circumstances

If you are in any of these special situations, you can get extra help and services.

If you have a disability and/or special educational needs (SEND)
  • Extra Help: There is a special Local Offer for you.
  • Adult Services: If you qualify for Adult Services, you will get help to move to these services when you turn 18. Your Social Worker will guide you through every step.
  • Rights: Even if you start working with Adult Services, you still have all the rights and help as a Care Leaver until you turn 25.
If you are an Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Young Person (UASC) or you have problems with your immigration status in the UK, there are additional support services available to you. These include access to:
  • English Classes: You can join English classes (ESOL).
  • Interpreters: You can get help with translation.
  • Group Work: You can join groups to learn about the asylum process and your rights in the UK.
  • Peer Support: You can join peer support groups.
  • Immigration Help: You can get specialist advice at monthly immigration meetings at our Hub.
  • Legal Help: We will help you find good legal representation for your immigration status.
  • British Citizenship: We will help you get your British Citizenship if you qualify for it.
  • Planning: If you don’t have indefinite leave to remain (ILR), we will help you plan for different outcomes of your immigration claim, including housing and money support.
If you are on remand, about to leave custody or under any Court Order 
  • Support: You still get the same support as a Care Leaver.
  • Financial Help: You will get financial support.
  • Visits and Planning: We will visit you regularly and plan for your life after custody as part of your Pathway Plan.
  • Working Together: We will work with your prison resettlement worker and probation worker to make sure you get the help you need.
  • Mentoring: if you experience any form of youth violence you can access specialist mentoring. 
  • Accommodation: If you are over 21 when you are released, we will work with Enfield’s Housing department to find you a place to live at least eight weeks before your release date.
If you are a young parent
  • Family Support:  We want you to thrive as a family, be resilient and ensure your child grows and achieve their full potential. 
  • Pregnancy: If you or your partner become pregnant, your Social Worker or Personal Advisor will help you with any assessments needed in your child’s best interest.
  • Advocacy: You can get advocacy support and specialist mentorship, even if, unfortunately, your child has been permanently removed from your care.
  • Money Help: You can get financial support through available parenting grants.
  • Start for Life services: you can find support with breast feeding, infant parent relationship, access health visiting, stay and play session and many more services at Enfield five Family Hubs.
  • Parenting Resources: You can find parenting resources online, at our Hub, and at Enfield Community Family Hubs.
  • Resource Directory: The Enfield Care Leavers website has links to all services  and resources for parents, including help for parents of children up to age 5.
If you are not living in Enfield
  • Support: Enfield still supports you. You get the same help as explained in this Local Offer.
  • Local Help: If you want to stay outside Enfield, we will help you find support from your local council, including housing options.
  • Private Renting: If you choose private renting, we can help with a deposit but we can’t be your guarantor.
  • Return to Enfield: You can choose to return to Enfield and explore if you are eligible for a tenancy through Enfield Housing.
