Goal 3: Learn and Work
This goal is important for your future. Here are some ways we can help you you’re your education, training, and jobs:
- Personal Education Plan (PEP) Meetings: If you are 16, 17, or 18, we will have meetings with your Social Worker, Carer, and someone from Enfield’s Virtual School to help you with your education or training. These meetings happen three times a year.
- Virtual School: The Virtual School will help you until you turn 25. They can help you find work experience, apprenticeships and jobs. They can also help you make a CV and get ready for job interviews.
- Job Interviews: If you apply for a job or an apprenticeship with Enfield Council and meet the essential requirements asked for the role, you are guaranteed an interview.
- Money for Education or Training: Your Social Worker or Personal Advisor will tell you about any extra money you could get to help you with your education or training, like grants or bursaries. For example, if you start in an apprenticeship, you can get £3,000 from your apprenticeship provider. We can discuss one-time payments for things like transport costs, school supplies or a laptop.
- Apprenticeship Money: If your apprenticeship pay is less than the Leaving Care Maintenance Allowance, it will be topped up by the Care Leavers Team.
- Higher Education: If you are in higher education and not getting accommodation from the Care Leavers Team, you can get £3,500 per year. This money can help with the living costs for up to 4 years, including one retake year.
- Help with Fees: Your Social Worker or Personal Advisor can help you apply for tuition fees and maintenance loans. They will also help you find a place to live during holidays and choose the right course and university.
- Post Graduate Grant: If you want to do a post graduate course, you can get up to £3,500 after a needs assessment and checking other funding options.
