Goal 4: Find and Keep a Place to Live

Your Social Worker or Personal Advisor will help you find a good place to live as you get ready to live on your own. Here are some ways we can help:

  • Accommodation Options: You can stay in supported accommodation if you’re not ready for your own place yet.
  • Foster Care: If you’re still with your foster family when you turn 18, you can stay with them up to your 21st birthday if everyone thinks it’s the best choice.
  • Long-Term Plans: By the time you turn 21, or earlier if you’re ready, we’ll look at your long-term housing needs and future plans. This will be part of your Pathway Plan.
  • Prevent Homelessness: We work with Enfield Housing to make sure no Care Leaver becomes homeless. Care Leavers up to age 25 are considered a priority for housing help.
  • Living Independently: Your Social Worker or Personal Advisor will help you get ready to live on your own and explain Enfield’s plan for Care Leavers to get their own place.
  • Skills for Living: We want to make sure you have the skills to live independently. Your Social Worker or Personal Advisor will show you tools and workshops to help you.
  • Managing a Tenancy: We will give you advice and practical help on managing a tenancy, like avoiding rent or Council Tax arrears.
  • Council Tax: We will tell you if you qualify for Enfield’s 100% Council Tax discount and help you apply online. If you’re 21 or younger, the local authority will cover the cost. Between 21 and 25, we’ll let you know if you qualify for any discount and will help you apply for it.
  • First Month’s Rent: When you move into your own place, we will pay for your first month’s rent to help you avoid arrears. We can also help with a deposit if your landlord asks for it.
  • Setting Up Home Allowance: You will get £3,000 to help you furnish and settle into your new home.
  • Floating Support: You can get extra help to make sure you have everything you need.
