Am I a Care Leaver?
There are four kinds of Care Leavers. It depends on how old you are and how long you have been in Enfield’s care. It can be tricky to know what help you can get as a Care Leaver. You should always ask for help to understand your rights and what you can get.
Types of Care Leavers
Eligible Child
- Age: 16 or 17
- Time in Care: In care for 13 weeks since age 14
- Current Status: Still in care
Relevant Child
- Age: 16 or 17
- Time in Care: In care for 13 weeks since age 14
- Current Status: Not in care anymore
Former Relevant Child
- Age: 18 to 25
- Time in Care: Was an Eligible or Relevant Child before
Qualifying Care Leaver
- Age: 16 to 25
- Time in Care: In care on or after 16th birthday, but less than 13 weeks since age 14
- Other Situations:
- If you were in care before being under a Special Guardianship Order (SGO)
- If you were Privately Fostered, you might be a Qualifying Care Leaver, but you should ask for advice.
