Enfield’s Help for Care Leavers

Enfield’s Local Offer informs you of all the help you should get by law and the extra support you can get from Enfield as your “corporate parent.”

Types of Care Leavers What you get?
Eligible Child
  • You will work with your social worker.
  • You will have an Independent Reviewing Officer.
  • You will get a Needs Assessment, a Care Plan (which is also your Pathway Plan), and regular reviews.
  • You will get practical, emotional, and financial support, including a place to live, as agreed in your Care Plan.
  • You will be asked about what is happening to you. Your views will be taken seriously and will help make your Care Plan.
Relevant Child You are not a Looked After Child anymore, but you can still get help if you want:

  • You can get help from a Social Worker or Personal Advisor.
  • You will get a Needs Assessment and a Pathway Plan, reviewed every 6 months or sooner if you ask.
  • You can get help with a place to live and money for daily expenses.
  • You can get money for education, training, or work needs.
Former Relevant Child You are not a Looked After Child anymore, but you can still get help if you want:

If you are 18-21 years old:

  • You can get help from a Personal Advisor.
  • You will have a Pathway Plan, reviewed every 6 months or when things change.
  • You can get important documents like your passport and birth certificate.
  • You can get your Health Passport if you were in care for over a year.
  • You can get the savings made for you while in care.
  • You can ask for a copy of your file records.
  • You can get help with a place to live, like supported accommodation or staying with your foster carers.
  • You can get help with work, education, or training.
  • You can get help to claim benefits.
  • You can get money if you can’t get public funds because of your immigration status.
  • You can discuss any other help you think you need to become an independent adult.

If you are 21-25 years old:

  • You might not need active help anymore. If things change, you can get help again after an assessment.
  • You can still get information, advice, and guidance until you are 25.
  • We will check on you every year to remind you of the support available.
  • Help with a place to live or money will be limited after 21 unless you are in higher education.
  • If you need ongoing help with a place to live or money after 21, you might be directed to other services like DWP, Enfield Housing, or NASS.
Qualifying Care Leaver If you are a Qualifying Care Leaver, the help from Enfield might be limited but includes:

  • Information and advice from Enfield Care Leaver Service.
  • A needs assessment and a support plan.
  • Keeping in touch, if you agree.
  • Help with a place to live during holidays if you are in full-time college or higher education away from home.
  • Access to special accommodation support through our Housing Department.
