Goal 3: Learn and Work
This goal is important for your future. Here are some ways we can help you you’re your education, training, and jobs:
- Personal Education Plan (PEP) Meetings: If you are 16, 17, or 18, we will have meetings with your Social Worker, Carer, and someone from Enfield’s Virtual School to help you with your education or training. These meetings happen three times a year.
- Virtual School: The Virtual School will help you until you turn 25. They can help you find work experience, apprenticeships and jobs. They can also help you make a CV and get ready for job interviews.
- Job Interviews: If you apply for a job or an apprenticeship with Enfield Council and meet the essential requirements asked for the role, you are guaranteed an interview.
- Money for Education or Training: Your Social Worker or Personal Advisor will tell you about any extra money you could get to help you with your education or training, like grants or bursaries. For example, if you start in an apprenticeship, you can get £3,000 from your apprenticeship provider. We can discuss one-time payments for things like transport costs, school supplies or a laptop.
- Apprenticeship Money: If your apprenticeship pay is less than the Leaving Care Maintenance Allowance, it will be topped up by the Care Leavers Team.
- Higher Education: If you are in higher education and not getting accommodation from the Care Leavers Team, you can get £3,500 per year. This money can help with the living costs for up to 4 years, including one retake year.
- Help with Fees: Your Social Worker or Personal Advisor can help you apply for tuition fees and maintenance loans. They will also help you find a place to live during holidays and choose the right course and university.
- Post Graduate Grant: If you want to do a post graduate course, you can get up to £3,500 after a needs assessment and checking other funding options.

Drive Forward
- Support on offer to Care Leavers up to your 26th birthday to transition from care into career.
- Contact: we have partnered up with Drive Forward on one of their coaches is available weekly to meet you at Enfield Care Leavers Hub. Speak to your Social Worker or Personal Advisor to book an appointment with them.

- Support: If you apply for a job or apprenticeship with Enfield Council and meet the requirements, you are guaranteed an interview.

Care Leaver Covenant
- Support: provides you with a range of opportunities and support on offer specifically for Care Leavers including 400+ jobs.

4-22 Foundation
- Support: Opportunities to achieve aspirations including access to programs that combine counselling sessions and employability support. They do offer specialist support for young people who identify as LGBTQ+ and for Refugees.

- Support: Training and apprenticeships opportunities with attached support tailored to your individual needs.

The Adult Learning Academy
- Support: access to a range of adult learning courses across North and East London including free ESOL courses.

Enfield Skills Training Employment Pillar (STEPs)
- Support: Supported by the Mayor of London and funded by the UK government, this one-to-one support service is available for Enfield residents aged 16 and above and facing barriers to employment.

- Support available up to the age of 27: their website offers Care Leavers information on the support available for you at colleges and universities across the UK. They also offer direct support for your professional career pathway.

Smart Works
- Support for women, including trans women and non-binary young people: offering free career coaching, interview clothing and interview preparation for women who are unemployed or in a zero-hours contract.

- Support available for Care Leavers in relation to education, employability, life skills, and healthy lifestyles.

Job Centre (Department of Work and Pensions)
- Support: there is a Care Leavers Lead Coach for Enfield’s Job Centres. If you identify as a Care Leaver in your interview you will be provided with additional support in accessing education, training or employment opportunities suitable to you.

The Tiko Foundation
- Support: Financial support available for young asylum seekers or those with limited leave to remain who are not entitled to Student Finance and cannot otherwise afford the costs of higher education.
